SMTD has partnered with the Gershwin family to bring the music of George and Ira Gershwin to students, scholars, performers and audiences across campus and worldwide.
The Midwest Composers Symposium is a consortium made up of the composition departments of four American Midwest Universities: University of Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Universities of Iowa, and University of Michigan. The purpose is to allow students to have contact with other composers at nearby institutions, and to foster connections and self-identity.
MCS is hosted by a different university each year.
