Musicianship Course

Students enrolled in a Michigan Youth Ensemble may elect to take a class in music theory, analysis, and aural skills. This will be an intensive course directed toward the serious student interested in majoring in music at the college level. Topics will include:

  • Basics of counterpoint and harmony
  • Analysis of phrases and simple forms
  • Sight-singing
  • Dictation/transcription
  • Ear-to-hand skills

An instrumental or piano background with knowledge of scales, key signatures, clefs, and other basic theory is helpful

but not required. A written test (for skills evaluation and class placement into appropriate level) will be given on

SEPTEMBER 28, 2008 at 11:15 AM, School of Music, Theatre & Dance - Moore Building, BRITTON RECITAL HALL.

You will be notified of your class placement, in Level I or Level II, before October 5. 

     

Class Dates Schedule

8 Fall Sundays, 2008:          September 28; October 5, 12, 19, 26; November 2, 9, 16
8 Winter Sundays, 2009:    January 18, 25; February 1, 8, 15; March 1, 8, 15

Level I:    11:15 AM to 12:00 PM            Beginning October 5, classes will be held in ROOM 2026

Level II:   12:05 PM to 12:50 PM            School of Music, Theatre & Dance - Moore  Building

CLASS TIME will depend on your section placement.

(The School of Music, Theatre & Dance - Moore Building, is located on UM North Campus, 1100 Baits Drive)
