The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance educates the artists, scholars, educators and entrepreneurs of the future. When nine U-M students began their journey to India with Prof. Stephen Rush in July, they thought they were going to learn about Indian classical music. But when they returned one month later, they also brought vast new knowledge about themselves and each other.
SMTD has partnered with the Gershwin family to bring the music of George and Ira Gershwin to students, scholars, performers and audiences across campus and worldwide.

Rehearsal Location: Moore Building, Room 2058
An ensemble designed to develop the skills and understanding necessary to perform in the jazz idiom. Students develop both listening and playing skills through the analysis and performance of standard songs and artists.
Interested students must complete the MYE online application. Applications are released in January of each year. The $45 non-refundable application fee can be paid online by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Discover) or mailed as check/money order payable to University of Michigan.
Returning MYJI members must submit an application every year, but auditions are waived if applying for the same instrument. All new students must complete an audition. Please visit the auditions page for audition dates and requirements.
All students who audition in April will be receive their admission notification by June 1st.
