MICHIGAN YOUTH ENSEMBLES

General Guidelines

We strongly encourage Michigan Youth Ensembles members to participate in their school music programs.

All Michigan Youth Ensembles are open to students in grades 9 -12 during the 2008-2009 school year.  Therefore, students in the

8th grade, during 2007-2008 school year, are eligible to apply by the March 31, 2008 application deadline.  String players in grades

7 and 8 are also encouraged to apply.  Returning 2007-2008 Jazz Improvisation students will not be required to audition.  All other students, regardless of previous participation, MUST AUDITION (see Audition Requirements).

In addition to the ensemble offerings, participants may also choose to enroll in a Musicianship Course that provides instruction in

music theory, analysis and aural skills.

Instrumentalists may audition on more than one instrument and/or for more than one ensemble.  Applicants who are selected to play

in more than one ensemble will be billed only one tuition fee.

A $40 non-refundable application fee is required.  Checks and money orders should be made payable to UM-MYE.  To receive audition notification, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application or provide a valid email address for electronic confirmation.   

If you missed the March 31 application deadline, YOU CAN STILL APPLY. 

A September 14, 2008 audition date has been set.  We encourage you to use our online application process.  If you are unable

to do so, application and brochure can be downloaded (see below).  You may apply anytime, but no later than September 8, 2008.  Applications must be received by this date!

Applications must be received no later than March 31, 2008.  Audition dates are April 13, 14 and 15, 2008

         AN ONLINE APPLICATION IS NOW AVAILABLE!  We encourage you to apply online as this will be helpful for processing

         applications in a timely manner, and will insure accuracy of your information.

TEACHER'S NOTE:  A Sunday, September 14, 2008 audition date has been set to fill vacancies and accommodate new students.  Applications must be received by September 8, 2008!

College Information Session

These sessions are available for members of the Michigan Youth Ensembles and their families. 

• What should I be doing in high school to prepare for college?
• Are my classes and grades important if I am planning to be a music major?
• What musical opportunities exist in college if I am not a music major?  

If you ask yourself any of these questions, plan to attend one of these identical sessions.

• Sunday, October 5 –      5:15 to 6:15 PM

• Sunday, November 2 – 2:30 to 3:30 PM 

                                           4:00 to 5:00 PM
