Tuition, Fees, and Scholarships

Application Fee

$65 non-refundable

Tuition

$1,050 - one-week institutes

This amount applies to Bassoon, Flute, Harp, Jazz, Percussion, Trumpet and Vocal Arts Institutes

$1,990 - two-week institutes

This amount applies to Clarinet, Dance, Horn, Oboe, and Theatre & Drama

$3,620 - three-week institute

This amount applies to the Musical Theatre Workshop

$4,050- four-week institute

This amount applies to the Center Stage Strings Institute

Tuition fee includes instruction, room and board, and materials specific to each program. Final tuition payment must be received 30 days from notification of acceptance into the program, but no later than May 1, 2017, or the student’s acceptance may be cancelled. Payments should be made by credit card (preferred method), check or money order payable to The University of Michigan.

 

Enrollment Deposit

Admitted students are required to submit a $200 deposit to secure their enrollment ($500 deposit for Musical Theatre Workshop and Center Stage Strings.) Enrollment deposits are due approx. two weeks from the date of acceptance notification. Enrollment deposits will be credited against the tuition balance.

 

Cancellation Fees

Students who are offered admission but choose not to attend must notify the MPulse office in writing within two weeks of the acceptance notification. If a student needs to withdraw from MPulse after full or partial tuition has been paid, a written request is required and the tuition paid will be refunded in the following amounts:

  • Prior to May 1: All tuition paid will be refunded minus the non-refundable deposit
  • From May 1 until June 1: All tuition paid will be refunded minus 50% of total tuition due
  • From June 1 until June 24: All tuition paid will be refunded minus 75% of total tuition due
  • After June 24, if a student withdraws, no refund will be given

Scholarships

 

Merit Awards

MPulse awards a few scholarships to extremely talented and deserving students. Consideration for these scholarships is automatic, provided the completed application, application fee, and audition meet the published deadlines. No additional application is required for consideration.

Need-Based Awards

A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. To be considered for a need-based scholarship you must complete the online need-based financial aid application. Please select "merit and need award consideration" in the program application. After you submit your program application you will receive a link to the online need-based financial aid application. This link will appear on your program application confirmation page. If you do not receive the link, you may email smtd-youthandadult@umich.edu to receive another copy of the financial aid application link.

You must also submit a copy of your family’s signed, most recent tax return (social security numbers redacted). Tax returns may be uploaded as PDFs in the financial aid application, or sent by U.S. Mail to:

Along with your family's signed tax return, please feel free to provide any additional documentation that describes your extenuating circumstances such as proof of unemployment, an AFDC medical card, or a statement of need from a high school counselor.

Glen Thomas Rideout Vocal Scholarship

This award will be granted to Vocal Arts student(s) with preference given to candidates from the Saginaw, Bay and Midland counties as recommended by the Saginaw Choral Society. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants should send an email to mpulse@umich.edu requesting to be considered for scholarship consideration.
