Focused on individual instruction for high school oboists and bassoonists of all playing levels, the Double Reed Institute will provide an intensive two weeks designed to enhance technical and musical skills. In addition to the classes listed below, additional emphasis will be placed on practice techniques, etudes and repertoire, and preparation for college auditions (with career question/answer sessions).

incomplete at the time of the deadline.
Application Deadline
For priority consideration, all application materials, including the recorded audition, completed application form, and teacher recommendation (optional), must be received by February 15. However, applications may be accepted after the deadline if there are openings. Click here for current information regarding openings.
NEW FOR 2008
The audition will be WAIVED for Summer 2007 Double Reed institute students who wish to return in 2008. The application and application fee are still required and should be submitted by February 15.
CD/Audio Cassette Tape Instructions
Clearly label your recording and its jacket/case with your name, instrument, title and composer of your selection(s) and the MPulse Ann Arbor session to which you are applying.
Submit a recorded audition (CD preferred) of one piece, with or without accompaniment, demonstrating your highest level of accomplishment (for example, a piece performed at Solo and Ensemble Festival, an etude, or an excerpt from something being played at school). The selection(s) should be three to five minutes in total length, and demonstrate both technical and lyrical skills. If one piece does not demonstrate contrasting styles, include a second piece or an additional movement.
Recommendation (Optional)
You may have one of your current music teachers (school teacher or private teacher) assess your work in a letter of recommendation. In addition to your musical abilities, the letter may discuss your personal characteristics such as initiative, dependability, and your commitment to increasing your musical skills. The letter should be included with your application in a sealed envelope (with the teacher's signature across the back seal).
Acceptance Notification
Decision letters will be mailed by March 30. Sorry, no decisions will be given by phone or email.
