Voices Valiant

A choral experience for adults 50 and better

2016-2017

Voices Valiant is a vocal music ensemble at the University of Michigan for adults over the age of 50.

This chorus is designed for adults who:

  • love to sing
  • enjoy learning through music
  • enjoy the social community that music can provide
  • want to improve their mental and physical health through music. There is no audition necessary.

Voices Valiant will rehearse in three cycles in 2016-17: Fall Cycle, Winter Cycle, and Spring Cycle. Each cycle consists of approximately 10 rehearsals and a performance. Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible to sing with Voices Valiant?

Voices Valiant membership is open to all singers 50 years and better. Singers of all skill level (first-time choir singers and experienced vocalists) are welcome in Voices Valiant.

Do I need to be able to read music to sing with Voices Valiant?

You do not need to be able to read music to be in Voices Valiant, but the ability to read music is a great asset in learning the songs. If you do not read music, you may want to initially bring a recording device to rehearsals to record your part while we rehearse.

What kind of music does Voices Valiant sing?
Voices Valiant’s mission is to enjoy learning through choral music. This allows us to draw repertoire from a wide range of sources, including:

  • Music honoring a variety of world cultures
  • Music from our American heritage
  • Music from our life stories

Will Voices Valiant perform?
Voices Valiant has three performance cycles: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each cycle includes approximately 10 rehearsals and a concert. Voices Valiant also supports community singing, so every concert will include an audience sing along. Concerts will be on Saturdays at 2:00 PM at Earl V. Moore Building on U-M Campus. We also may schedule additional (and optional) community outreach concerts.

Is the rehearsal space handicap accessible?
