BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
This workshop is devoted to the enhancement of beautiful and communicative choral singing. To that end we will discuss conducting and rehearsal techniques appropriate for a wide range of choral ensembles. Students will conduct in class and be videotaped to aid in the evaluation of their work. Reading sessions of new repertoire will take place daily as well as practical opportunities for workshop participants.
The major choral/orchestral work we will focus on in the 2008 Summer Choral Conducting Symposium will be:
Haydn: Creation (Dover publishes the full score);
All conductors must purchase and conduct from a full score and prepare "The heavens are telling" and "Awake the harp" prior to arriving on campus.
GRADUATE CREDIT:
Graduate credit is available. The Summer Choral Conducting Symposium may be taken for 2 credits (graduate level) through the University of Michigan, School of Music, Theatre & Dance and transferred to another institution's graduate program.
