AFRICAN DRUMMING & DANCE

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Study traditional Ghanaian music through performance modes of drumming, singing, and dancing.  Instrument and vocal pieces will be selected from a variety of musical styles such as unaccompanied vocal chants, songs, music from life cycle events, and music for social and other festive occasions.  No prior drumming experience is required.

Great skills to use in classrooms and community groups.

TIME:

              Monday - Thursday: 2:00 - 7:30 pm

              Friday: 10:30 - 4:00pm

GRADUATE CREDIT:

Graduate credit is available.  The African Drumming & Dance Workshop may be taken for 2 credits (graduate level) through the University of Michigan, School of Music, Theatre & Dance and transferred to another institution's graduate program.

 

Continuing Education Units:

              This workshop has been approved by the State of Michigan to offer SB-CEU’s.

              Total Number of CEU: 2.1

COSTS:

              Application Fee: $ 25

              Workshop Fee: $ 450

SB-CEU Fee: $ 25 (optional)
