AMY PORTER'S ANATOMY OF SOUND - A Workshop for Flutists

A supportive, holistic approach to the flute

JUNE 7 - 10, 2008

This four-day intensive workshop presents an opportunity for flutists of all ages to particpate in masterclasses, and join in-depth discussions about the study of flute tone, breathing and body awareness both in flute practice and in performance.

Fifteen performers are chosen by taped audition and will be selected upon level of playing needed for the class selected. No limit to the number of auditors.  Every age and performance level (student, amateur, semi-professional, professional) is encouraged to apply.

The repertoire-based workshops will focus on all aspects of practicing and performing and the movement workshops will feature Professor Schweibert focusing on performance efficiency, reducing the stress and tension associated with performance, while increasing the student’s capacity for expression.

In addition, several leading flute manufacturers will exhibit their instruments for attendees to view, test and buy!

FEES:

Application Fee - $25

(not included in the workshop fee)

Performers: $600 U.S.
Students, amateurs, semi-professional, and professional flutists may apply. Fifteen performers are chosen by taped audition and will be selected upon level of playing needed for the class selected. Please indicate your preference in the specific classes that are offered, by ranking three options. Every effort will be made to match the appropriate person to their chosen classes.

Full-Time Participant: $400 U.S.
May attend all classes and recitals.

Daily Auditor: $180 U.S./per day
May attend all classes and recitals for the day(s) specified.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS/PROCEDURES:
     

Due May 1, 2008  for Performers only... Participant application due June 1, 2008 (no CD required)

1. A short statement as to why you would like to attend the workshop.
2. Resume/description of current flute related activities.
3. Application and application fee (check made payable to The University of Michigan).
          

Performers only:

     

1. Two repertoire options to be performed in each specified class (to avoid repertoire duplication).
2. A recording (tape or CD only - not to exceed 20 minutes) or recent performance of two contrasting works.  One piece must be with piano or orchestral accompaniment.
