Undergraduate Auditions

Every applicant must demonstrate, by an audition, portfolio, and/or interview, sufficient ability and potential to successfully pursue one of the degree programs of the School.

We strongly recommend auditioning or interviewing in Ann Arbor.

Scheduling Policies

Auditions and interviews are scheduled after a successful review of an applicant's complete application materials. To be considered, submit an application and a DecisionDesk profile no later than the application deadline. You will be able to indicate your desired audition dates on your DecisionDesk profile, and we do our very best to accomodate those preferences. All audition invitations will be sent via email on a rolling basis.

Do not make travel arrangements until you have received an invitation indicating your audition/interview date.

To reschedule an audition or interview, please contact SMTD Admissions. Though we will try to accomodate your change request, not all auditions can be rescheduled due to limited capacity and time. There is no fee or penalty for rescheduling an audition or interview.

In the case that you need to cancel your audition, please contact SMTD Admissions.

Audition/Interview Fees

All applicants completing an audition or interview (in-person, recorded, or otherwise) are required to pay a $35.00 non-refundable audition/interview fee. Your invitation email will include a payment link. Please pay the audition/interview fee at your earliest convenience but no later than on the audition date.

Applicants who are applying to multiple programs are required to pay an audition/interview fee for each program.

Applicants who wish to be considered for School of Music, Theatre & Dance merit scholarships must audition before March 1.

Merit-Based Aid Consideration

All applicants auditioning or interviewing for a School of Music, Theatre & Dance program are automatically considered for merit-based financial aid. Applicants who wish to be considered for School of Music, Theatre & Dance merit scholarships must complete their audition or interview before March 1.

Audition & Interview Requirements

Audition requirements are unique to each area of study. It is important for applicants to review the requirements and policies specific to each program. Specific guidlines can be found on the "auditions & interviews" page for each Department.

If you have any questions about the audition and interview requirements, please contact SMTD Admissions. Find out more about how auditions are scheduled, what to expect at your audition, and rolling admissions.
