Joint Program in Music Performance and Business Administration
This is a joint program with the School of Business Administration leading to two degrees: the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Music. The MBA degree requires sixty hours, of which ten hours may be applied to the M.Mus. program. The M.Mus. program requires thirty hours, of which fifteen hours may be applied to the MBA program. Together the two degrees require sixty-five hours. Once a student is admitted to the joint program, neither degree will be awarded until the two are awarded simultaneously. Applicants should hold a BM or BMA degree from the University of Michigan or its equivalent, and should have taken at least one course in economics and one course in mathematics.
Curriculum for the MM/MBA
- Thirty hours of business administration courses including financial accounting, human behavior, probability, computer, business economics, management accounting, financial management, marketing management, operations management, and corporate strategy
- Fifteen hours of business administration electives
- Ten hours of music courses in one of the following fields: composition, conducting, music education, musicology, music theory, or performance
- Ten hours of music electives
- Internship
Graduate Admission Requirements for the MM/MBA
Students seeking admission to the MM/MBA program must meet the admission and audition requirements for a M.Mus. program as listed elsewhere. They must also concurrently seek admission to the School of Business Administration. In order to enroll in the MM/MBA program, a student must be admitted to both the School of Music, Theatre & Dance and the School of Business Administration in the same term.
