Types of Admission

Band O RamaRegular Admission

Graduate applicants who intend to pursue a degree program at the SMTD must apply for regular admisson. The vast majority of students apply to enter their program of choice in the Fall term. Winter term admission is subject to availability in a specific program.

Regular admission is completed on a rolling basis. To be eligible, the Office of Admissions must receive your complete application by the deadline posted on the appropriate department page. We will let you know if you have been invited to audition/interview approximately 4-6 weeks after we receive your complete application. A final result will be mailed to you via postal mail approximately 4-6 weeks after your audition/interview.

Non-Degree Admission

If you wish to elect graduate courses to increase your knowledge or improve your skills but do not wish to pursue a degree, you may apply for admission as a Not Candidate for Degree (NCFD) status student. Those students who would like to enroll in an Adult Summer Workshop and receive graduate credit must apply under this category. NCFD status is granted only on the basis of appropriate objectives or purposes clearly stated in the personal statement, which is submitted as part of the application. All course elections of NCFD students are subject to the availability of faculty time and classroom space. Normally, only full-time NCFD students are eligible for performance instruction. NCFD status carries no implication with respect to subsequent regular admission to any graduate program. Students seeking NCFD status cannot apply on-line. For more information, please contact the Office of Admissions and Student Services.

Readmission

Any continuing degree-seeking student who has not been enrolled for twelve months or more must apply for readmission. If you are seeking readmission at the same degree level, the application fee is waived. Please submit an official transcript of all work completed since your previous enrollment, along with the application, an updated resume and repertoire list (if applicable), and a personal statement outlining concrete plans to complete your degree. Students seeking readmission cannot apply on-line. For more information, please contact the Office of Admissions and Student Services.
