52nd Conference on Organ Music

The Art of Improvisation

September 30th - October 3rd, 2012

Welcome!

We invite you to join us at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance for the 52nd Conference on Organ Music.
As we explore the Art of Improvisation, we are delighted to be joined by Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra for her lecture-recital on Bach, Dave Wagner in recital, Steven Ball at the Barton Theatre Organ, Karel Paukert in recital, and, for our special event, by finalists in this year’s Improvisation Competition to be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

We look forward to being joined again by Susanne Diederich for her lecture on J.S. Bach’s Orgelbüchlein. We will also be treated to a performance of an Attaingnant Mass followed by a lecture on Pierre Attaingnant by Dr. Scott Hyslop. We are pleased to present Interlochen Arts Academy Organists in recital; in addition, U of M organists will perform Widor’s Symphony VI. Renate McLaughlin will enrich the proceedings with a lecture on the life and music of Sigfrid Karg-Elert; we will also hear degree recitals from Kipp Cortez and Timothy Tikker.

With James Kibbie at the organ and David Jackson on trombone, we are looking forward to their presenting works by Koetsier, Schiffmann and Eben .

American Public Media’s PIPEDREAMS host Michael Barone will join us again this year with his lecture “Imagining the Future, Celebrating the Past” complete with his usual surprise bag of recorded examples.

Please join us!
