49th Conference on Organ Music of France & Germany
October 4 - 7, 2009
Welcome!
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the
49th Conference on Organ Music
at the
University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance
Our theme this year is “Music of France and Germany.” We will study and enjoy the music of the great German composer, Felix Mendelssohn, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth. Many other composers will be represented during the various lectures and recitals by our students as well as honored guests from various parts of Europe.
We remember the outstanding musicians we have heard during conferences: Anton Heiller, who was our very first guest, M & Mme Duruflé, Lady Susi Jeans, Searle Wright, Gordon Atkinson, Janette Fishell, Ralph Kneeream, Buxtehude scholar Kerala Snyder, Mme Marie-Claire Alain, Dame Gillian Weir, and many others.
During this Conference, by popular demand, we welcome back the distinguished scholar, Christoph Wolff, who will deliver four lectures on various aspects of the music of J.S. Bach.
Let us not forget to mention marvelous meals in bustling downtown Ann Arbor! Our area is home to over 250 restaurants including an amazing variety of ethnic cuisine. We have planned ample opportunity to discover why Ann Arbor is known as a “dining destination”....Welcome to our town!
We are grateful for the generous financial support of the following sponsors:
The American Center of Church Music
Mary Kaye and Jim Johnston
Marilyn Mason Foundation
Dale Shoemaker
The 49th Conference on Organ Music is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Robert Glasgow, a distinguished organist and faithful teacher of The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
