Colleen Conway is Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Music Education at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She holds bachelors and masters degrees in horn performance and music education from the Eastman School of Music, and a doctorate in music education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Her scholarly interests include instrumental music education, preservice music teacher education, mentoring and induction of beginning music teachers, and professional development of music teachers.
She presents regularly at state, national and international conferences (including MENC, The Midwest Clinic, AERA, and ISME) and has published over 50 articles in all of the major music education journals.
She is currently on the editorial boards of the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education; Update: Applications of Research in Music Education; The Journal of Music Teacher Education; and Advances in Music Education Research.
She serves as program chair of the Music Education Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association; program chair for the Instrumental Music Teacher Educators conference; and state advisor for the Michigan chapter of the Society for Music Teacher Education.
Her edited book entitled Great Beginning for Music Teachers: A Guide to Mentoring and Induction was released in October 2003 by MENC. Handbook for the Beginning Music Teacher by Colleen M. Conway and Thomas M. Hodgman was released by GIA Publications in January 2006.
Dr. Conway plays horn in the Adrian, MI Symphony and continues to work with elementary, middle and high school music students through private horn teaching and brass adjudication throughout Michigan.
