As senior admissions counselor, Emily Perryman collaborates in matters of SMTD recruitment, admissions and student services. She also serves as the functional lead for the deployment of technology to meet the goals of the Admissions Office and provides leadership within the office in understanding and efficiently using the resources and systems available to the School.
Prior to joining the SMTD staff, Emily held positions with several arts organizations in the Ann Arbor community, including the School for the Performing Arts, Ann Arbor Symphony, Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, Alf Violinmaking Studios, and Shar Music. Originally from Ohio, she attended the Ohio State University for her undergraduate studies in performance and music education, graduating with the distinction summa cum laude. She continued to the University of Michigan to earn her master’s degree in flute performance. Principal teachers have included Leone Buyse, Lorna McGhee, Jeffrey Zook, and Katherine Borst Jones.
Emily continues to maintain an active teaching and freelance career, performing regularly with the Ann Arbor, Flint and Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestras, Michigan Sinfonietta, and First Presbyterian Churches of Ann Arbor and Flint. A champion of new music, Emily served on the board and was principal flutist with Brave New Works during its inception and organization as a not-for-profit contemporary ensemble. With Brave New Works, Emily was honored to premiere countless works by Michigan composition faculty and new composers from around the globe.
