Collaborative Pianist

David Gilliland joined the University of Michigan Wind Department as a collaborative pianist in 2005; he also now concurrently performs with the University of Michigan Concert Choir and Men's Glee Club. Previously he served as the Director of Accompanying at Albion College, and was the Collaborative Piano Coordinator for the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp for six years. David received his doctorate in collaborative piano from the University of Minnesota, studying with Margo Garrett and Karl Paulnack; his master's in accompanying and chamber music is from the Eastman School of Music, where he worked with Jean Barr. David is a highly regarded interpreter of wind and brass literature, and has performed with leading artists such as Joseph Alessi, Marianne Gedigian, and SMTD alumna Carol Jantsch. He has been affiliated with the Anatomy of Sound Workshop since 2007, and is a founding member of the Aurea Silva Trio. His recording of the complete wind compositions of Henri Dutilleux in concert with members of the University of Michigan Music Faculty can be found on Block-M records.
