Bachelor of Music in Performance: Performance Major (Curriculum A)

The Bachelor of Music in Performance: Performance Major (Curriculum A) is designed for those brass, woodwind, and percussion players who wish to prepare for a professional performance and teaching career. Students desiring to teach in elementary or secondary schools should elect the Wind Instruments Major with Teacher Certification (Curriculum C) or the Instrumental Music Education curriculum.

Pre-College Music Preparation

The student must show evidence of unusually strong ability, training, and repertoire; piano study is recommended.

Curriculum

  • Core Curriculum

  • Private performance instruction in the student's major instrument required each term

  • Participation each term in either the University Bands, Orchestras, or, with departmental approval, Jazz Ensemble

  • Participation for four terms in small brass, percussion, or woodwind ensembles, and/or orchestral repertory courses

  • Presentation of a recital

  • Thirty hours of non-music courses, including the University's two semester English writing requirement

  • Electives to complete a total of 121 hours
