Chris Albrecht - (MM Trumpet) Advanced to the NTC Semi Final round in Washington D.C.



Jeff Barudin - (DMA 2010 Percussion) - Professor of Percussion, Lindenwood University, St. Charles, MO.

Greg Battista - (Winds C 2009 Euphonium) won the job in the

euphonium section of the NAB.  After graduating from the UM with a Winds C

degree, he completed his MM at Arkansas and had a year toward his DMA at Kansas.  Greg recently placed 2nd in the international solo euphonium competition held in Lieksa, Finland. He’ll be joining Travis Siehndel (MM tuba performance, 2004) in the NAB.

Justin Benavidez - (Tuba) Was offered the position at Texas A&M-Kingsville as an  Assistant Professor

Matt Bloomfield – (Senior Trumpet) Advanced to the NTC Semi Final round in Washington D.C.
Finalist for the Third Trumpet with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

Melissa Bosma - (Oboe) was accepted to and attended the Music Academy of the West, summer 2011.

Joe Brown – (MM Trumpet) Advanced to the NTC Semi Final round in Washington D.C.
Advanced to the Semi Final round of the San Francisco Symphony audition for Third Trumpet.
Won the Third Trumpet position with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
Won the Third Trumpet position in the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra.

Michael Brown - (BM 2005 Bass Trombone) Won the Navy Band Bass Trombone Audition.

Patrick Carter - (Oboe) was appointed Special Events Coordinator for the Metropolitan Opera.

Ryan Chen - (MM Euphonium) won the Falcone Solo Euphonium Competition, Student Division.  

Kendra Cheney – (Oboe) Awarded position as oboe instructor at the Maale Adumim Conservatory, located in the city of Maale Adumim, 20 minutes outside of Jerusalem. She also performs as oboist in the Ron Shulamit Orchestra and the Avivim Orchestra, both of which are located in Jerusalem.

Katherine Cosgrove - (MM Trumpet) Finalists for the Third Trumpet with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
Finalist for the Principal Trumpet position of the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra.

Thomas Crespo - (Bassoon) both attended the Aspen Music Festival this past summer.

EuFouria Trombone Quartet - Co-winners of the National Quartet Competition hosted by the Eastern Trombone Workshop.

They presented a split recital at the 2011 Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington D.C.  

EuFouria is also the only American quartet to advance to the final round of the 2011 International Trombone Quartet Competition, hosted by the International Trombone Association. As one of three finalists, they performed this Summer at the International Trombone Festival in Nashville, Tennessee.

The members of the quartet are James Ginn (BM 2011Trombone), Christopher Hernacki (BM 2011 Trombone), James Layfield (DMA 2012) and Patrick Montgomery (BM 2011 Trombone).

Ross Garton - (Oboe) was accepted to and attended Le Domaine Forget Music festival, summer 2011.

Tim Gocklin - (Oboe) was accepted to and attended the Sarasota Music Festival, summer 2011.

Daniel Goldblum - (BM 2013 Bassoon) has been accepted to study at the IES Abroad Vienna Music Program in Vienna, Austria for the Winter 2012 term.

Christian Green - (BM 2013 Bassoon) attended the 2011 Aspen Music Festival this past summer.

Paula Guro - (Junior Trumpet) Finalist for the Third Trumpet with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

Lauren Halyo - (Oboe) was accepted to and attended the Hot Springs Music Festival and the Imani Chamber Winds Festival, summer 2011.

Christopher Hernacki (BM 2011 Bass Trombone) Winner of the 2011 Donald Yaxley Bass Trombone Solo Competition hosted by the International Trombone Association. Mr. Hernacki is pursuing graduate work at San Francisco Conservatory and subbing with the San Francisco Symphony.

Aaron Hill -(Oboe) Awarded the English Horn position in Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. He also plays principal oboe in Charlottesville Symphony and teaches at the University of Virginia. Invited to perform in recital at the Conference of the International Double Reed Society, held in Tempe, AZ.

Charles Huang - (Oboe) is now instructor of Woodwind chamber music and adjunct instructor of oboe at the Hartt School of Music.

Sarah Evans – (Oboe) Awarded the position of principal oboist, Tulsa Signature Symphony Orchestra.

Jocelyn Frank - (BM Oboe) was promoted to producer for BBC Americana radio. She also performs on oboe in an eclectic band, ‘The Torches” with several tours throughout the Eastern US each year.

Aaron Jakubiec – (Oboe) Awarded position as oboe instructor at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL, where he teaches Oboe and music appreciation. Invited to perform in recital at the Conference of the International Double Reed Society, held in Tempe, AZ.

James Layfield - (DMA Trombone) Won Second Trombone in the Saginaw Bay Symphony.

Matt Lyon - (BM 2008 Tuba) Hired as Assistant Professor of tuba/euphonium at Ball State University. He replaces the retiring Mark Mordue (DMA tuba performance 1994).

Sabrina Ma - (BM 2007 Percussion) - First prize 2010 classic marimba league international competition.

Christine Massey - (Oboe) Awarded position as oboe instructor at Fullerton College, Fullterton, CA. She also performs frequently with the San Diego Symphony.

Fritz McGirr - (BM 2010 Percussion) - Finalist, Blue Man Group auditions.

David McLemore - (MM Tuba) Finalist in the 2011 Women's Association of the Minnesota Orchestra (WAMSO) Young Artist Competition.

He was awarded a full scholarship to the Aspen Music Festival and School for summer, 2011.
Winner of the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Solo Tuba Competition, Artist Division, held last May in Tucson.

2nd Prize winner in the Winds/Percussion Division of the Lima (OH) Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.

Reipient of a prestigious Presidential Fellowship (full tuition + $27,000 stipend) to attend the U. of Georgia as a DMA student.

Neeraj Mehta - (DMA Percussion) 2010 tour of Midwest with Danish multiple percussion repertoire: 10 Universities.

Garrett Mendelow - (Junior Percussion) - Semifinalist, 2010 Tromp International Percussion Competition.

Tim Michling – (Oboe) Won the Instructor of Oboe position at Oakland University and Principal Oboe position in the Ann Arbor Symphony.

Graham Middleton - (MM 2009 Trombone) Won Principal Trombone in the Cleveland Opera.

Nermis Mieses - (DMA Oboe) First Prize in the International Oboe Competition of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Patrick Montgomery (BM 2011 Trombone) was a finalist in the 2011 Robert Marstellar Competition hosted by the 2011 International Trombone Association. As one of three finalists, hel performed at the International Trombone Festival in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Montgomery is now working on graduate studies at the Curtis Intitute.

Ilan Morgenstern - (MM 2008 Bass Trombone) was a featured soloist with the United States Army Orchestra. He performed Thom Ritter George’s Concerto for Bass Trombone as a guest artists of the 2011 Eastern Trombone Workshop.

Mr. Morgenstern is Principal Bass Trombone with the San Antonio Symphony and former Principal Bass Trombone with the and the Kansas City Symphony and the Jacksonville Philharmonic.

Seth Morris - (DMA Flute) Advanced to the final 8 players from 56 invited flutists for the Second Flute position in the Boston Symphony.

Joseph Munoz - (BM 2009 Trombone) Won the 2nd Trombone position with the Tucson Symphony. Mr. Munoz was also a finalist in the 2011 ITA Van Haney Competition and winner of the Trombone Fellowship position to the 2010 Aspen Music Festival.

Jon Ney - (Senior Trumpet) Finalist for the Third Trumpet with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

Joe Nibley - (MM Trumpet) Advanced to the NTC Semi Final round in Washington D.C.



Mary Ouzounian - (BM in Music Education 2014 Bassoon) worked at the Interlochen Arts Academy during the summer 2011 term.

Andrew Parker - (Oboe) Invited to perform in recital at the Conference of the International Double Reed Society, held in Tempe, AZ.

Chris Plaskota -(Jr. Winds C Euphonium) Advanced inthe auditions held for the openings in the Marine Band/Naval Academy Band.

Curtis Prichard -(MM, 2011 Euphonium), Advanced to the finals of the NAB and was interviewed for the position in that Band.

Quadraphonic Trombone Quartet - Advanced to the final round of the International Trombone Association Quartet Competition. They played the final round at the 2010 International Trombone Festival in Austin, Texas.
The members of the quartet were James Ginn (BM 2011), Christopher Hernacki (BM 2011), Alex Truelove (BM 2010), and Michael Steiger (BM 2010).

Ryan Reynolds  - (Bassoon) and the Akropolis Reed Quintet were first prize winners in the 2011 national MTNA Performance Competition and the Plowman Competition. Other members of the quintet include Timothy Gocklin, oboe, Kari Dion, clarinet, Matthew Landry, saxophone and Andrew Koeppe, bass clarinet. As part of their MTNA award, they performed at the organization's Michigan conference on October 16, 2011. Ryan Reynolds is also the recipient of the University of Michigan Band Alumni Scholarship.

Kallie England Rodriquez - (Oboe) Accepted a new position as director of Marketing and Communications for Kerrytown Concert House.

Eric Rutherford - (DMA 2013 Bassoon) performed at theThy Master Class Chamber Music Festival in Snedsted, Denmark.

Caroline Ross - (Oboe) was accepted to and attended the National Orchestral Institute, Washington DC, summer 2011.

Steve Sanchez (MM 2008 Clarinet) won the bass clarinet audition for the San Francisco Symphony.

Neil Sisauyhoat - (DMA09 Percussion) - Adjunct Instructor of Percussion, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Ben Smolen - (Specialist Flute 2011) Won the Principal Flute position with the Pacific Symphony in California under former

U of M conductor Carl St. Clair. Advanced to the final 8 players from 56 invited flutists for the Second Flute position in the Boston Symphony.

Michael Steiger - (BM 2010 Trombone) Won Second Trombone in the Wheeling Symphony. Mr. Steiger is now finishing his graduate degree at Northwestern University.

Ian Sullivan - (BM10 Percussion) - Charles Owen Fellowship at Aspen Music School, 2010 Pacific Festival, MM scholarship, The Juilliard School.

Aryn Sweeney - (Oboe) was awarded the position of Assistant Professor of Oboe at Ball State University. Invited to perform in recital at the Conference of the International Double Reed Society, held in Tempe, AZ.

Emmanuel Toledo – (MM 2010) Principal Clarinet in the Lansing Symphony. The Second Clarinet position was won by two current students, Amanda Witt and Lewis Gilmore, who will split this season.

Rachel Van Amburgh - (oboe) was accepted to and attended the Texas Music Festival and the Imani Chamber Winds Festival, summer 2011.

Xavier Verna - (BM 2010 Percussion) - 2009 Kerope Zildjian Scholarship, Semifinals, Atlanta Snare Drum Competition.

Jessica Warner – (Oboe) Awarded the English Horn position with the Peoria Symphony, IL and the oboe professor position at East Tennessee State University.

Katherine Weintraub - (MM Saxophone) Winner of UofM M Graduate Concerto Competition. She will perform Villa Lobos" Fantasia" with UPO on Saturday, February 5, at 8:oopm.

Brian Winegardner - (BM 2005 MM 2007 Trumpet) Advanced to the final 4 in the Seattle Symphony Assistant Principal Trumpet Audition.

Robert Young - (DMA 2010 Saxophone) Accepts a teaching position at Kansas State University.
