Bachelor of Music in Performance: Piano with Teacher Cerification (Curriculum B)
The Bachelor of Music in Performance: Piano with Teacher Certification (Curriculum B) is appropriate for pianists who wish to teach in elementary or secondary schools and also wish to focus on performance in addition to education.

Eight terms of private performance instruction including weekly studio class and piano forum and presentation of a recital

Four terms of choral ensemble and four terms of piano ensemble

Two terms of conducting

Additional coursework in music theory including Basic Theory at the Keyboard, Analysis of 20th-Century Tonal Music, and 18th-Century Counterpoint

Two semesters of advanced piano literature

A minimum of thirteen to fourteen Music Education credit hours and nine School of Education credit hours

Admission to the Teacher Education Program

Completion of all applications, courses, student teaching, and auditions necessary for the K-12 Michigan Teacher’s Certificate

Electives to complete a total of 130-138 credit hours
Minimum Repertory Requirements for Graduation
Minimum repertoire for graduation includes such works as suites,
partitas, preludes and fugues of J. S. Bach; sonatas of Scarlatti,
Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven; small and large form compositions of
Schubert, Chopin, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Liszt; music of
Debussy and Ravel; music of Scriabin, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky,
Schoenberg, Prokofiev, Bartók, Copland, and so forth. This should total
at least three full recital programs and two concerti (one preferably by Mozart or Beethoven).
