Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts Technology, Media Arts Concentration (Curriculum C)
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts Technology: Media Arts
Concentration (Curriculum C) is designed for students who possess
demonstrated interest in using technology to create multimedia art
forms.
Pre-college Preparation:
Experience in producing integrated art forms using computer technology.
Some experience in music theory, composition, mathematics, and still
and moving imagery.
Curriculum
- Four terms of music theory including the study of the structure of primarily tonal music through ear-training and sight-singing, written work in construction and composition, and musical analysis
- Two courses in musicology exploring European and American music history, as well as the sounds and concepts of many world music traditions
- Two terms of elementary piano study
- One term of elementary music composition study
- Seventeen credit hours of coursework in Performing Arts Technology including Seminar in the Media Arts, Acoustics & Psychoacoustics, Introduction to Computer Music, Computer Music Composition & Arranging, Sound Recording & Production, and Digital Music Ensemble or Electronic Chamber Music
- Four Performing Arts Technology electives selected from the courses listed under Performing Arts Technology
- Non-music requirements including Math 105 or proficiency, the University’s two semester English writing requirement, one course in Computer Programming, Screen Arts and Culture: Aesthetics, two courses in Screen Arts and Culture: Production, one course in Visual Arts and Culture, one course in Still Imagery & Technology, one course in Computer Aided Design, Modeling or Animation
- Engineering Concentration: Minimum of twenty-five hours of Math/Engineering electives beyond those specified in the interdisciplinary core
- Sonic Arts Concentration: Minimum of twenty-five hours of Sonic Arts electives beyond those specified in the interdisciplinary core
- Visual Arts Concentration: Minimum of twenty-five hours of electives beyond those specified in the listed requirements, including a minimum of two courses in Screen Arts and Culture and the remaining coursework in Art
- Electives to complete a total of 120 credit hours
