Department of Music Education

about

The Department of Music Education faculty are highly successful and visible leaders in all areas of music education. For over 60 years the department has been at the forefront in preparing successful music educators at every instructional level. The department's mission is to provide future music educators with the necessary knowledge, skills and insights for successful teaching and learning. The department offers degree programs of extraordinary quality and diversity. Our teacher certification curricula prepare musicians to be superior musician-teachers who make lasting impressions in the lives of young students. Our masters degree programs are designed for professional music educators. These programs interweave research and practice, allowing students to reflect on and apply knowledge and experiences from coursework to their professional teaching. Our PhD program is designed to prepare scholars, researchers, and leaders for positions in music teacher education, music education research, P-12 music teaching and leadership, and music education policy. The music education department is a member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) for Music Education.
