Master of Music in Improvisation

Prerequisites for Admission

A high level of skill in performance as demonstrated by an audition to include both standard repertoire and improvisation styles and well developed aural skills.

Curriculum

• Six hours in Jazz and Improvisation Studies including Contemporary and Advanced Jazz Improvisation

• Six hours of ensemble, including one term each of Jazz Ensemble, Digital Music Ensemble, and Creative Arts Orchestra

• Two hours of coursework in Media and Music Technology

• Six hours of coursework in composition, conducting, musicology, music theory, music education, and/or performance

• One course in dance or improvisation forms

• Electives to complete a total of thirty hours

• Completion of a final improvisation-based performance and recording project
