The mission of the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) "exists to support and affirm dance in higher education through regional conferences, the adjudication process, and national festivals. The educational mission of the Association is to foster creative potential, to honor multiple approaches to scholarly and creative research and activity, to promote excellence in choreography and/or performance, and to give presence and value to diversity in dance. The Association acts as a national membership service organization to strengthen the educational network for students and faculty within the academic dance community."
Each Fall term, the Department of Dance holds an audition for those students wishing to present works at the annual regional festival. For more information about ACDFA, visit acdfa.org/.
The Department of Dance is a member of Michigan Dance Council. You can become a member too, apply for MDC scholarships, have works adjudicated, teach and/or perform at the annual MDC Dance Day, etc. For more information, visit michigandance.org/
The Department of Dance is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD). From its website, "NASD is an association of approximately 75 schools of dance, primarily at the collegiate level, but also including postsecondary non-degree-granting schools of dance. It is the national accrediting agency for dance and dance-related disciplines. The Association also provides information to the public. It produces statistical research, provides professional development for leaders of dance schools, and engages in policy analysis."
