Orchestras

All students who receive School of Music, Theatre & Dance merit-based scholarships are required to participate each semester in one of the ensembles marked with an asterisk (*) or for some jazz degrees (**); doctoral students are exempt.

* University Symphony Orchestra	2 credits.
Open to all, but not recommended for non-music majors because of the extensive rehearsals and performances. Placement by audition - most selective orchestra. Single screened audition for both this and Philharmonia Orchestra. Audition sign-up sheets will be posted by Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 on the band and orchestra bulletin boards outside the Rehearsal Hall. Contemporary Directions Ensemble	1-2 credits.
Primarily comprised of music majors This ensemble performs contemporary classical music in a variety of instrumentations, from solo works to chamber orchestra. Participation is by permission of the instructor, through recommendation from applied faculty. Campus Philharmonia Orchestra	1 credit.
Primarily comprised of non-music majors Single audition for this and Campus Symphony Orchestra (Sign up) Audition requirements: 2 excerpts (fast and slow) from any piece of music. Rehearses W 7:00 - 9:30 p.m., McIntosh Theatre / Recital Hall Contact: Elliot Moore, Graduate Student Conductor
