Do I need a ticket?
Graduates do not need a physical ticket. Your cap and gown will get you in the door. Guests and family members will need printed tickets.
Why am I limited to the number of guest tickets?
The School of Music, Theatre & Dance are currently graduating the largest classes ever. The Power Center seats just over 1,300 people.
Do we have a rehearsal for commencement?
No.
Do I need to wear a cap and gown?
Yes. You are required to wear academic attire to participate in the ceremony. Caps and gowns are available at any of the central campus bookstores.
(Please note that doctoral attire is available only at the Michigan Union Bookstore.)

Bachelor's and Master's Degree Graduates and Candidates:
Academic attire may be purchased beginning in mid-March at all three bookstores listed.
Doctoral Degree Recipients:
Doctoral degree recipients who plan to attend the University Graduate Exercises on Friday, May 1 are responsible to rent or purchase the hood with which they will be hooded, as well as their cap and gown. This attire may be rented or purchased at the Michigan Union Bookstore.
Rental attire may be reserved Monday, March 2 through Friday, April 24. The Michigan Union Bookstore cannot guarantee gown sizes or hood colors after April 24. Rental attire should be returned by Friday, May 8.
Custom attire can be purchased any time during the year. Please allow four to six weeks for the delivery of custom attire orders.

What do we do about parking?
All University structures are open and free to the public commencement weekend. The Power Center has an adjacent parking structure.
What is the schedule the day of commencement?
3:00 p.m. - Graduate check-in begins - Power Center Rehearsal Room
Power Center Lobby opens to guests
3:15 p.m. - Handicapped seating begins
3:30 p.m. - Auditorium opens for general seating
4:00 p.m. - Commencement ceremony begins
6:15 p.m. - Reception in the Power Center lobby
