PIANO SUPPORT

Pianos make the School go round.  And it’s not just the piano performance and pedagogy students who need them—composition students, singers and their collaborative pianists, musical theatre majors, and many others relyon a solid, well maintained piano inventory. 

Pianos at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance are lagging well behind the recommended schedule for replacement.  Faculty instructional pianos are in various stages of functionality.  We have one of the best piano technology departments around, who treat our existing pianos with tender loving care.  But pianos at the School, as you can imagine, all are subject to heavy use.

Gifts to support the purchase or repair of pianos go twice as far, thanks to the generous matching credit program from the School’s Steinway dealer, Hammell Music.  For every dollar contributed for this purpose, Hammell extends equal in-kind credit to the School of Music, Theatre & Dance to purchase new pianos, adding real purchase power to your gift.

At the heart of a flourishing school of performing arts is a sound investment in the pianos that teach and train and inspire, the very foundation of our work here.  We owe it to our faculty; we owe it to the students who choose to come to Michigan to study.

Ways you can help:

The Charles H. Gershenson Piano Fund at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance is currently dedicated to providing funds for the purchase and maintenance of pianos.

Other giving options include documenting a bequest that will provide funds for the purchase of pianos.  Or you can provide the funds for the School to purchase a piano—upright or grand—in your name or in someone’s memory.  Whatever approach you choose, your help will make an impact on the work of our faculty, staff and students
