Pianos make the School go 'round. The piano performance and pedagogy students are not the only students who need them—composition students, singers and their collaborative pianists, musical theatre majors, and many others rely on a solid, well-maintained piano inventory.
The School of Music, Theatre & Dance has one of the best piano technology departments around, skilled technicians who treat the existing pianos with tender loving care. But pianos at the School are subject to heavy use and need both to be maintained and replaced at regular intervals.
At the heart of a flourishing school of performing arts is a sound investment in the pianos that teach and train and inspire, the very foundation of our work here. We owe it to our faculty; we owe it to the students who choose to come to Michigan to study.
Ways you can help:
The Charles H. Gershenson Piano Fund (711300) at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance is dedicated to providing funds for the purchase and maintenance of pianos. Gifts to this fund will ensure the endowment can grow to meet the ongoing piano renovation, maintenance, and purchasing needs of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
Other giving options include documenting a bequest that will provide funds for the purchase of pianos. Or you can provide the funds for the School to purchase a piano—upright or grand—in your name or in someone’s memory Whatever approach you choose, your help will make an impact on the work of our faculty, staff, and students
