Paid Summer Internship in Development Deadline January 10
December 2010
The award-winning U-M Development Summer Internship Program (D-SIP) just completed its fourth very successful year. Designed to expose undergraduate students to the fundraising profession at institutions of higher education and non-profits, the internship was recently named Nonprofit Employer of the Year by Crain’s Detroit and stands as a benchmark for institutions across the country.
“D-SIP was an invaluable experience,” says Patrick Carter, BM ’09, oboe, who interned for SMTD’s Office Development during the summer of 2009. “It taught me important skills for navigating post-college life not just as a professional, but also as a human being. Whether I am ordering a coffee, playing in a woodwind quintet, or trying to find a job, the same skill set always comes in handy: the ability to interact with and understand other people. My D-SIP summer formalized this kind of thinking and taught me lessons that have stuck with me ever since. It’s a program from which everyone—no matter what their professional intentions may be—can certainly benefit.”
Andrés Holder, BFA ’10, theatre & drama (production), interned during the summer of 2010. He is now production manager for the GALA Hispanic Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. “While D-SIP didn't directly connect me to my job,” Andrés says, “much of the training and professional development helped me in the interviewing process. My organization is small enough that my work directly impacts the development staff's duties, and the D-SIP experience taught me how development works, which made me a much stronger applicant for this job—and complemented the EXCELLENT training I got from the theatre department.”
The program provides you with meaningful paid work, stimulating classes and great leadership development experiences. You’ll see firsthand how philanthropy makes a difference at Michigan.
The deadline is January 10, 2011. For more information, visit: http://www.giving.umich.edu/internship/
