Third Paul Taylor Summer Intensive in Ann Arbor
April 2010
College-age students from around the country will converge on Ann Arbor on June 19 for the third Paul Taylor Summer Intensive. The Ann Arbor campus was added three years ago to the long-established program in New York City as a second alternative. The intensive runs until July 1. Applications are still being accepted.
Ruth Andrien, who danced with the Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1973 to 1984, will bring the entire Taylor 2 company with her to teach Taylor technique classes. Andrien was in Ann Arbor last fall to restage Taylor’s famous historic Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rehearsal) (1980) on the School’s dance students.
Andrien is now director of Taylor 2, created in 1993 as a flexible company of six professionals who perform, teach, and provide community outreach around the globe. This is the first summer the whole of Taylor 2 will be in residence. While in Ann Arbor, the company will teach classes at schools across the state.
On June 19, they will present an educational performance at 4:00 in the Betty Pease Studio, preceded by a lecture by Angela Kane, dance department chair and Taylor scholar. A final concert, traditionally held the last day of the intensive, is scheduled for Thursday, July 1 at 4:00 p.m.
