Annual New Music on the Block Competition - Block M Records
September 2008

Block M Records, the University of Michigan’s recording label, is now accepting entries for its annual New Music on the Block  ompetition. All entries must be new music composed, performed, recorded, and produced by University of Michigan (U-M) students.  The contest officially kicks off on Friday, September 19th.  The goal of New Music on the Block is to celebrate student creativity in the arts by promoting new musical works composed, performed, recorded and produced by U-M students. Students whose work is successfully reviewed will be awarded a recording contract in the Audio Studio of the U-M Duderstadt Center with the possibility of distribution in the iTunes Music Store. Selected soloists, ensembles, and bands will be invited to perform at the Duderstadt Center Video Studio on Friday, January 9th at 7:00 p.m.

Submissions will be judged by an expert panel including producers, composers, media personalities, and U-M faculty.  Submissions are accepted from soloists, ensembles of any instrumentation, and bands ranging in size from 1 member to 100. All musicians must be currently enrolled students at the University of Michigan. All music must be original and written by currently enrolled students.  Submissions are due by 5:00 PM, Friday, October 24th. Winners will be announced the week of November 17th.
