Men’s Glee Club Celebrates 150 Years
on Saturday, April 10, 8:00 p.m. at Hill Auditorium
April 2010
The University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club, under the direction of Paul Rardin, SMTD choral conducting faculty member, will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Saturday, April 10, at 8:00 p.m. at Hill Auditorium, with their Annual Spring Concert.
In a tribute to the singing club’s acclaimed international tours to six continents over the past 50 years, the evening concert will feature music from around the world, along with the crowd-pleasing a cappella antics of The Friars and a finale of rousing Michigan songs.
The oldest student organization on the Ann Arbor campus and second-oldest glee club in the U.S. expects some 500 of its 1,700 living alumni to return to campus for the gala affair. At 3:00 p.m., on the afternoon of April 10, alumni from the Club will put on their own 150th Anniversary Alumni Concert, also at Hill Aud. Emeritus Glee Club conductors will take the podium as the Club performs some of its “greatest hits.” Returning conductors include Willis Patterson, Leonard Johnson, Patrick Gardner, Bradley Bloom, Jerry Blackstone, and Stephen Lusmann.
