August 2006

Budding musicians take note!  Block M Records, the University of Michigan’s new recording label, has announced  New Music on the Block, a competition of new music composed, performed, recorded and produced by University of Michigan (U-M) students. The contest officially kicks off on Tuesday, September 5, 2006.

Students whose work is successfully reviewed will be awarded a recording contract in the renovated Audio Studio of the U-M Duderstadt Center with the possibility of distribution in the iTunes Music Store.

Submissions will be judged by an expert panel including producers, composers, media personalities and U-M faculty.

Submissions can be from bands ranging in size from 1 member to 100.  All musicians must be currently enrolled students at the University of Michigan.  All music must be original and written by currently enrolled students.

Submissions are due by 5:00 PM, September 15, 2006.  Detailed instructions for submitted materials and judging criteria are located at the Block M Records website at www.blockmrecords.org
