Music, Theatre & Dance Alums Nominated for Tonys
Nominations for the Tony Awards, to be presented at the telecast awards ceremony on Sunday, June 7, include several of our own:
Gavin Creel, ‘98 (musical theatre), has been nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for the revival of Hair. Gavin was nominated for a Tony in 2002 for his performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Gregory Jbara, ‘81 (musical theatre and voice), is up for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a musical for Billy Elliot, the Musical; Greg plays the role of Dad.
In non-performing roles: Martin Pakledinaz, ‘75 (MFA, theatre and drama), has been nominated in the category for Best Costume Design of a Play for Blithe Spirit. The Araca Group, the production company of Matthew Rego, BFA ’92 (musical theatre and voice), is up for the musical Rock of Ages. Jeffrey Seller, LSA ’86 (theatre and drama), and his partner Kevin McCollum, who together form The Producing Office, have been nominated for the revival of West Side Story.
